The Proceedings of the 24th Session of a Court Martial on the Coup Attempt Against the King of Jordan, 18 August 1957

Printed in Arabic, this archival item documents the proceedings of the 24th session of the Court Martial on the coup attempt against the King of Jordan which was held on Sunday, 3 August 1957 at the King Abdullah II Air Base, in the presence of Colonel “Abed el-Karim al-Barghouti” and Colonel “Ahmad Baslan” along with “Taher Ashihabi”, “Salah Abu Zaid” and “Adnan Biyoun”, together, they did the secretary related work.  The Defense Committee included the following attorneys; Anwar Nusseibeh, Fuad Abd el-Hadi, Hasan Habib Hawwa and Azziz Shihadeh; whereas the session was inaugurated by the Chief Colonel Major “Aukash Azzain” who requested from the representative of the Prosecution General to present the witness, therefore, the session was opened by the question of the Attorney Aziz Shihadeh seeking information on the date to when they shall receive copies of the investigational testimonies and the supporting documents as per promised by the Public Prosecution, then, Khalil al-Silwani who is the Assistant of the General Prosecutor confirmed that they are still in the printshop in Jerusalem, later, he was asked by Azzain on the delivery date of which and responded “after tomorrow”, Azzain also requested from Muhammad Assadi in his capacity as the Representative of the General Prosecutor to present the witness, therefore, the Lance Corporal “Huwaidi Sultan” was asked about his name, number, age and his previous work as a driver for “Shaher Yousif” in addition to what extend does he know the suspect, because if yes, since when? and is there any biological relationship between the two?, moreover, many questions were addressed to him on Shaher Yousif about the place of his residence in addition to his family and the nature of his travelling and whether he was seeing the officers or not, then, the witness continued with the names list of the officers and answered the rest of the questions concerning the case.
