working orientation

The Palestinian Museum’s Digital Archive Project (PMDA) preserves and digitizes sources of Palestinian history endangered by confiscation, neglect, misuse, or loss, and publishes them on an online open-access platform.

The PMDA’ conceptual orientation is to constitute a “Palestinian archive from below.” Such a “people’s archive” would prove as one of the most exciting developments for knowledge production on the Palestinian people in recent years.  “History from below” as a methodological framework has gained traction across disciplines, and historians have made recent valuable additions to unearthing hitherto neglected sectors of Palestinian society.

The PMDA’s research orientation contributes to this historiography by gathering and providing access to rare primary materials that document Palestinian civil society’s achievements and resilience.
