The Continuation of the Diaries of Khalil Sakakini, 9 December 1939
Handwritten, this archival item documents the diaries of Khalil Sakakini on Saturday 9 December 1939, where he mentioned going with his sister Milia, Dumia and Hala to the cemetery and spreading flowers, spreading graves with red soil and the gardener of the Protestant Cemetery planting rosemary at the edges of the cemetery, then Sakakini recorded what he could remember from the previous night’s equivalent in 1917 while he was in prison at the Russian building, where Ottoman soldiers entered their cell, tied them with rope and lead them to Jericho, then Daraa, then Damascus. After which, he wrote his father’s habit in writing events in the footnotes of “as-Sawaeyyeh”, which is the book of prayer of the Roman Orthodox, he mentioned that his father documented that Khalil was born on a Tuesday night, 10 January 1878 at 07:00, and he called him Khalil after his older brother who died at a young age, then he commented on his childhood by referring to a page of his diaries dated 23 January 1919, where he mentioned those who visited him that day including Katbinco Deeb, Adel Jaber, Ilyas Haddad and Faraj Allah.
