Allenby Bridge, Jericho, the 1920s or the 1930s
Taken in the 1920s and the 1930s, this photograph shows King Hussein Bridge, a border bridge between Palestine and Jordan; also known as Allenby Bridge after British General Edmund Allenby, which is the channel that Palestinians cross from the West Bank to Jordan. The bridge is located near Jericho and the Dead Sea and is built over the Jordan River, the original bridge was built in 1885 and was destroyed during World War I and rebuilt in 1918 and then destroyed again in 1927 by the earthquake that struck Palestine; known as the Nablus earthquake.
