Issue 1 of al-Jadeed Magazine, January 1986
The first issue of the al-Jadeed Magazine, a monthly magazine for progressive national thought and culture founded in 1951 and printed at the Union Cooperative Press in Haifa, was issued in January 1986 under the supervision of its first editor Hanna Naqara and its editor-in-chief Antoine Shalhat. The issue included the following: 1. The talk of the month titled “Dangers and Challenges” 2. An article by Tayseer Ghbareyyeh titled "The Arabic Letter: History and Civilization". 3. An article by Abderrazeq Eid titled "Ze'ev Khoury and Modern Arab Thought". 4. An article titled "Urwa Abu Al-Saalik" by Salim Jabran. 5. The new culture corner, in which an article titled "The Press and Literary Journey of the Iraqi Communist Party" was published. 6. An article titled "Italo Calvino, the Giant of the European Novel" by Riad Baidas. 7. An article titled "Beckett's World and Its Intellectual Connotations" by Youssef Abdel-Masih Tharwat. 8. The story "The Vow" by Muhammad Nafaa. 9. An excerpt from the novel "A Soul in the Crucible" by Salim Khoury. 10. A story titled "Rabab Quit Painting" by Youssef al-Aqeed. 11. A story by Alphonse Daudet titled "Education". 12. A poem titled "Masabih al-Layali” (Lights of the Nights) by Ahmad al-Hajj. 13. The poem "Saya’ti az-Zaman” (The Time Will Come) by Wahib Nadim. 14. Two poems by Aryeh Decker. 15. The corner of monthlies by Naji Thaher. 16. An article titled "Fadwa Touqan's Memoirs, Biography and Visual" by Shaker Farid Hasan. 17. The corner of interviews. 18. Various cultural news.
