Widad Kawar was born in Tulkarm in 1931. She is a researcher and historian specializing in Arab heritage, and the founder of Tiraz institution- the Widad Kawar House Museum of Arab Dress in Amman, as she owns a huge collection of dresses, jewellery and heritage acquisitions estimated at more than 3,000 pieces.
show more show lessThe Widad Kawar Collection includes photographs of her family in Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, and Syria since the nineteenth century. The collection reflected the nature of social, cultural, and political life at the time, such as studying at the American University in Beirut, family photographs taken by Armenian photographers in Yafa, Jerusalem, Beirut, and Damascus, and photographs of women in traditional embroidered dresses, in addition to postcards that Kawar collected from European countries, the United States of America, and Britain, which bore pictures of Palestine and of religious places and symbols, as they contained biblical names of cities in the Levant.
