The Palestinian Al Fajer Group was founded in Kuwait in 1987 by its four members: Sima Kanaan (singing), Bashar Shammout (guitar), Jamil Siraj (oud and guitar), and Nezar Elayan (percussion). The group emerged within the broader context of the Palestinian cultural movement in the diaspora, aiming to express the Palestinian cause through committed music. They released their sole album, "Arabic Words", in 1988 and took part in several performances and festivals in Kuwait, Iraq, and Germany, where they received considerable attention from Arab diaspora communities and international cultural circles.
