The Salfit Municipality was initially established as a village council in 1945, and it continued to operate as such until it was prompted to a local council in 1952. The municipality supplies water, electricity and various other services not only to the residents of the town but also to some of the neighboring villages

The Salfit Municipality Collection includes the constituent documents of the municipality, namely the minutes of the establishment of the village council in Salfit in 1945 in addition to a set of municipal council decisions from 1945 to 1957. The collection also includes the minutes of the meetings of the Agricultural Committee and the Education Committee in Salfit. The minutes of the Agricultural Committee's meetings explain the mechanism of municipal cooperation with farmers in preserving lands and crops and imposing what is known as the “oil measurement” tax, while the minutes of the Education Committee's meetings explain the mechanism of cooperation and coordination between the municipality and institutions to develop educational institutions in the town.
