BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1939, Samih al-Qasim is a Palestinian poet and writer from the village of Rameh in Palestine. He contributed to the editing of “al-Ghad” and “al-Ittihad” newspapers, then became the editor-in-chief of HaOlam Hazeh Newspaper in 1966. He returned to work as a literary editor at “al-Ittihad” Newspaper and the secretary-general of the Editorial Office of “al-Jadeed”, then became its editor-in-chief. He founded the Arabesque Publishing House in Haifa with the writer Isam Khoury in 1973, and later managed the "People's Art Foundation" in Haifa. He headed the Union of Arab Writers and the General Union of Palestinian Arab Writers in Palestine since their founding, as well as editorship of the cultural quarterly "Ida'at", which he published in cooperation with writer Dr Nabih al-Qasim. He was the honorary editor-in-chief of the Nazareth-based "Kull al-Arab" Newspaper, before his death in 2014.
