The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) is an independent Palestinian national society that was founded in 1968. PRCS' social, health and humanitarian role in providing services to the Palestinian people was recognized during the Palestinian National Council's (PNC) session in Cairo in 1969. On 8 March 2006, Presidential Decree No. 46 was issued to emphasize PRCS' role as it has been designated since 1969. On 22 June 2006, PRCS was recognized as a full member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). PRCS provides its services in accordance with the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and the additional protocols and under the humanitarian international law, and is guided by the principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality.
show more show lessThe Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Archive includes a collection of photographs as well as newspaper and magazine clippings that document the nature of the life of Palestinian refugees in the Palestinian camps in Lebanon, particularly during the Lebanon War from 1981 to 1989, which encompasses (the Lebanese Civil War, the Israeli war on Lebanon or the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, and the War of the Camps, which formed a part of the Civil War, and which are usually referred to as the Lebanon War). These photographs and clippings capture those events and their implications on the Palestinian refugees, particularly depicting the bombing, destruction, shaheeds and the wounded, the destruction of economic facilities, such as the destruction of the Palestine Shaheeds Works Society (SAMED) workshops, and offering an insight into the lives of Palestinian refugees in the Palestinian camps in Syria and Jordan, and the 2002 Israeli invasion of the city of Ramallah and the Jenin Palestinian Refugee Camp. They also capture some activities of the institutions, hospitals and institutes affiliated with PRCS, such as the Fallujah Nursing Institute in Cairo, and cover events related to the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO).
