BIOGRAPHY

A pioneering cultural institution founded in 1996, bearing the name of the Palestinian writer and intellectual Khalil Sakakini, in honour of his legacy and in commemoration of his pioneering role in education and culture. The Centre began as an entity affiliated with the Palestinian Ministry of Culture, then became independent from it two years later to become a non-profit, non-governmental cultural association. Since its inception, the Centre has supported a wide range of artistic, cultural, and literary activities, and has remained one of the leading cultural institutions in Palestine. It hosted the poet Mahmoud Darwish, who edited and published the literary magazine "Al-Karmel" from his office in the Centre. For nearly three decades, it has housed art exhibitions, festivals, performances, and music and film events, becoming a vibrant and influential hub in the Palestinian cultural scene.
