BIOGRAPHY

Zahira Ahmad Badawi Kamal was born in 1945. She studied industrial physics and chemistry at Ain Shams University in Egypt and obtained a higher diploma in education from the University of Jordan. She held several positions in the Palestinian government, including Minister of Women's Affairs from 2003 to 2006. She was elected as the Secretary-General of the Palestinian Democratic Union- FIDA in 2011, being the first woman to hold this position.

DESCRIPTION

The Zahira Kamal Collection follows her biography from 1960 to 2019. It sheds light on Kamal's political and social life, and showcases not only her work in the education sector and the Women's Union, but also her political participation in international conferences and peace negotiations in the 1990s, where she was one of three women participating in negotiations. It also showcases her participation in protest demonstrations. The photographs show her assuming the positions of Director General of the Planning and Development of Women's Participation in the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, and Minister of Women's Affairs, and being elected as Secretary General of the Palestinian Democratic Union- FIDA.
