Muhammad Safa was born in 1917 in Baqa al-Gharbiyye, and was a student in al-Kuttab until the fourth grade. Safa began writing Zajal at a young age and recited it at village celebrations. In the 1930s, he participated in the Palestine Great Rebellion 1936-39 and spent his time after that editing and writing everything he wrote and collected during his life before he died on 28 June 2009.
show more show lessThe Muhammad Safa Collection contains photographs of members of the Safa family and documents that include poems, verses of Zajal, articles belonging to Muhammad Safa, a card, a marriage contract, several books, a book of horoscopes by Suleiman al-Husari which dates back to 1900, and another by Muhammad an-Nabulsi titled "Kashf al-Burda An Ma'any al-Bar'a" in 1884. The collection also contains the diaries of Muhammad Safa, documenting different periods from 1917 until the 1940s.
