BIOGRAPHY

Najib Sabri Yaaqba was born in Kafr Ra’i, located in Jenin District, in 1963. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Arts, majoring in the English language and Islamic law. He has many publications, including "Fursan az-Zajal wa al-Hida al-Filasteeni" (The Knights of Palestinian Zajal and Cameleer Chanting), where he wrote down popular poetry and the biographies and experiences of Zajjals from various Palestinian villages, refugee camps, and cities to collect the country’s legacy of Zajal and Cameleer chanting and to introduce the prominent popular poets in Palestine. He also represented Palestine in Zajal in several countries including Libya, Algeria, Jordan and the United States of America.

DESCRIPTION

The Najib Sabri Collection contains several personal photographs of him and others of him with popular Zajals, a rich collection of his poetic and prose compositions that he used to deliver at social and national events, school certificates, a newspaper clipping featuring a poem of his in 1984, in addition to other papers documenting his life and his many activities in the fields of culture, art and literature. The collection also includes many letters and correspondence that Sabri received or sent during his artistic and cultural career, a set of tickets and flyers for his concerts and cultural events, and some personal papers related to his work and activity in society.
