"A Statement by Independent Mayors in the West Bank and Gaza", December 1979
Printed in November 1979, this document shows a statement by independent mayors in the West Bank and Gaza discussing the resumption of activities by the resigned municipal councils in the West Bank and Gaza Strip starting from 8 December 1979. This followed the release of Bassam ash-Shaka'a, Mayor of Nablus, by Israeli occupation forces and the failure of their attempt to deport him. This outcome came after a campaign of local, Arab, and international pressure and solidarity.
