Isa al-Battat. Isa al-Battat, A Militant Rebel during the 1936 Revolution, aẓ-Ẓahiriya Village, Hebron

A paper clipping containing a summary of information on the life of Isa al-Battat from the village of aẓ-Ẓahiriya in the Subdistrict of Hebron. Al- Battat worked solo during the 1936 Arab revolution; he gathered his men from aẓ-Ẓahiriya and villages nearby, his weapons consisted of loot from his British and Jewish enemies, and he was not in contact with the revolution leadership. He shot and killed chief British excavator and archaeologist James Leslie Starkey on 10 January 1938 near Beit Jibreen. The clipping mentions two anecdotes on al-Battat's murder; the first suggests that his body was found in aẓ-Ẓahiriya near the location where the battle at which Starkey was killed took place; the second is that he was killed in Beit Jibreen as a result of personal conflict and his body was sent to aẓ-Ẓahiriya afterwards.
