"The Life of the Village", a Letter Addressed from Abu Ghalib to his Nephew Yusuf al-Hasan, 19 January 1984
Written in Arabic, this document features a four-page letter entitled "The Life of the Village" addressed from Abu Ghalib to his nephew Yusuf al-Hasan, the letter describes the life inside the village of Arraba; where Abu Ghalib talks about the winter and how the people live throughout the season in their houses, and he also mentions the coast of Arrabat al-Buttuf, which is located in the village of Arraba and helps to gather water during the rainy season. He then describes the social life of the village and how close its people are; as they stand together during joy and hardships. In this letter, Abu Ghalib allocates a big part especially for depicting the season of harvest on the coast of al-battuf and how the harvesters sleep during the time using piles of hay. He then mentions how joyful weddings are inside the village; especially the wedding processions; where the villagers are all in one place and singing traditional songs such as the popular "Zajal", in addition to the tradition of delivering money which is a method of social solidarity. By the end of his letter, he addresses facts in regard to the economic status of the village and how it depends on agriculture, herding, and selling harvest to the cities nearby, and finally, he concludes his letter by how he yarns to such actions and memories and wishes to return back to his village of Arrabat al-Buttuf.
