"Poem of the Sand by Mahmud Darwish", A Painting by Muna as-Suʿudy, 1979
Found in the "Homage to Mahmud Darwish" collection of 7 paintings made and singed in 1979 by Jordanian-Palestinian artist Muna as-Suʿudy, this colour painting, titled, "Poem of the Sand by Mahmud Darwish", was made between 1977-1980 as a tribute to Palestinian poet Mahmud Darwish and a commemoration of his poems. As-Suʿudy. On the lower right corner of the painting, the following section of the poem is included: In the beginning, the tall trees were women They were rising waters, a language Does earth die as humans do? Is she carried by a bird in shape and into the empty space I am the beginnings And the endings The sand is a shape and probability I see a sand age covering us, taking us away from the days Clouds that resemble counties
