"The Annapolis Conference", an Article by Bassam ash-Shakʿa, 2007
A two-page article written by Bassam ash-Shakʿa on the Annapolis Conference, a Middle East peace conference held in 2007 in the United States of America. The article discusses the timing of the conference, which coincided with the events taking place in Gaza at the time and the Palestinian division between Fatah and Hamas. Ash-Shakʿa writes that the Palestinian Authority grasped the oppurtunity to attend the conference and encourage Arab countries to participate as well in spite of Israel's decision to annex al-Quds (Jerusalem), continue with the occupation and refuse to recognize the rights of the Palestinian people. Ash-Shakʿa adds that the Annapolis Conference was part of a series of concessions and the return of the Road Map for Peace; a plan to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict proposed by the United States, the European Union, Russia and the United Nations.
