"The Intifada is a Historical Event", an Article by Bassam ash-Shakʿa
Handwritten by Bassam ash-Shakʿa, this six-page article titled, "The Intifada is a Historical Event", tackles the reasons behind the first Intifada after twenty years of occupation and the absence of Arabic and international legislation; imposing military rules; confiscating land; water and power; and the continuous control over daily life. Ash-Shakʿa explains that the Intifada came as a result of a series of Palestinian struggles; refusing to implement military rules, the self-rule method and the civil control; the outcomes of the 1976 elections; condemning Anwar as-Sadat's visit to al-Quds (Jerusalem) and the decision to fire municipality mayors. The article adds that an important outcome of the Intifada was that it unleashed the patriotic expression of the Palestinian people and did not allow the outcomes of the Israeli occupation to affect the Palestinian bond; rather, it regained Palestinians' relationship with their land and paved the way for militant action. However, ash-Shakʿa adds that this has not responded well with attempting to unite Palestinian powers and correcting the political pathway and that there was a need to hold a national conference to achieve Arabic and humanitarian unity in a militant style in order to protect the right to exist.
