Published on 31 May 1997, this four-page newspaper clipping from al-Binaa, issue no. 874, includes an interview Zahra Hammud conducted with Bassam ash-Shakʿa in Beirut entitled "Arafat Is No Longer Close to the People" on pages 16-19 of said issue. Ash-Shakʿa talks of the situation of the Palestinian people under the Israeli Occupation and within the control of self-rule. He also states his opposition of the Oslo Accords and describes the Cause of Palestine as a nationalist one. He further adds, on page 18, that he had spoken with the Lebanese press at the invitation of the Permanent Conference for Combating the Zionist Cultural Invasion about the struggle of the Palestinian people, "It Is Only Lebanon and the Levant in the Scene", he adds.
