Attali'ah Newspaper, Issue No 696, July 4 1991

The six hundred and ninety-sixth issue of Attali'ah Newspaper which was published on July 4, 1991. Bashir al-Barghuthy is the issueʾs editor-in-chief, and it was printed in Salah ad-Din Press in al-Quds (Jerusalem). The 12-page issue covers the following: 1. The residents of agricultural villages in the Jordan Valley call for the intervention of international organization to lift the curfew on the villages as it caused a shortage of food supplies. 2. The residents of Beit Sahour demand an end to seizures and to give the municipal council the right to issue permits. 3. The Popular Art Centre releases its newsletter. 4. The opening ceremony of the Popular Heritage Museum. 5.  An article entitled “How did the Residents of Aqraba Defy the Orders of the Israeli Land Authority?” 6. Knesset members visit al-Quds and Gaza in solidarity with the residents. 7. Israeli security sources admit that the Intifada is ongoing (Uprooting trees, strikes, raids, curfews, and settler attacks.) 8. Shots fired at a military car in Nablus. 9. The demolition of three houses in the West Bank. 10. Israeli settlers attack the village and residents of Beit Imrin causing great damage. 11. Classes resume at Hebron University. 12. An exhibition for the calligrapher Muhammad Siyam. 13. News from Gaza “The UNRWA carries on providing the residents with urgent aid, the UNRWA complains to the civil administration after Israeli Occupation Forces tore down the wall that separates the UNRWA centre and a military base, several areas in the Gaza Strip under curfew.” News from Jenin “Indiscriminate fire on the residents of Qabatiya, women organize a sit-in at the Red Cross offices, tax raids, confiscating the work permit of a resident, house raids in Bruqin, raids on street vendors.” News from Ramallah “The residents of Silwad protest against the new planning scheme, a raid on the Union of Workers in Ramallah and al-Bireh, 40 workers who carry permits are fined and arrested.” News from the Jordan Valley area “Two children are injured, the release of several prisoners, renewing green cards, reducing the area of cultivated land in the Jordan Valley, new demands for the residents of Aqabat Jaber and Ein el-Sultan Refugee Camps.” 14. An article by Hisham Abdullah entitled “Emile Habibiʾs Saraya, the Ogre's Daughter Blends Daily Life with Dreams and Delusions.”
