Attali'ah Newspaper, Issue No 796, June 17 1993

The seven hundred and ninety-sixth issue of Attali'ah Newspaper which was published on June 17, 1993. Bashir al-Barghuthy is the issueʾs editor-in-chief, and it was printed in Salah ad-Din Press in al-Quds (Jerusalem). The 12-page issue covers the following: - The International Human Rights Commission: Serious human rights violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The perpetrators should be prosecuted.  - As the tenth round of talks begins: Syria requests to tie the security arrangements to the principle of full withdrawal from the Occupied Golan Heights. - The Palestinian People's Party cite sealing off al-Quds (Jerusalem) and the expansion of settlement activities in the city as additional reasons to refrain from joining the tenth round of talks. - Abdel-Shafi: We will not accept a Declaration of Principles that doesnʾt include al-Quds (Jerusalem) and the settlements. - Sheikh Hayyan al-Idrisi: The Israeli occupation is responsible for the deteriorating situation. The security belt led to an acute crisis. - Clinton and al-Assad exchange correspondence. - On route 60 and compensation in the Israeli way. Fissures plague the houses of the residents of Beit Jala. - Mahmud Issa and Majed Abu Qtaish from the village of Anata are convicted of commanding a military cell affiliated with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas). - In Nablus: Children claim the lionʾs share of the current preparations for the summer vacation. - The Arab Organization for Human Rights condemns the death sentences against 10 Palestinians. - The Israeli Occupation Army occupies Urif once again. - As unemployment rates continue to surge, huge shopping malls open in Tulkarem. The city attracts investors from Nablus and its villages. The municipality fights Israeli authorities over proposed land lots to build an industrial zone. - In a meeting with Palestinian journalists and a crowd of interested people, Langer: I am perplexed that human rights are the subject of negotiation. - Tayseer Aruri: The American administration abandoned its Letter of Assurances to the Palestinians. There are other reasons that led us to suspend our participation in the peace talks.
