Attali'ah Newspaper, Issue No 841, April 28 1994
The eight hundred and forty-first issue of Attali'ah Newspaper which was published on April 28, 1994. Bashir al-Barghuthy is the issueʾs editor-in-chief, and it was printed in Salah ad-Din Press in al-Quds (Jerusalem). The 20-page issue covers the following: 1. A company owned by a member of the Palestinian negotiating team prepares to take over the duties of the Civil Administration. 2. The Israeli security belt around the West Bank prevents the UNRWA from providing its services to Palestinians. 3. The Palestine Dental Association in Bethlehem holds elections. 4. The Israeli security belt and khamaseen exact a devastating toll on farmers in the Gaza Strip. 5. The transcript of a statement issued by independent Palestinian figures announcing that they will not comply with the results of the negotiations. 6. To commemorate May 1st, trade union leaders remember the shuhadaʾ of Oyoun Qara massacre and renew their commitment to the issues of Palestinian workers. 7. An article by Subhi Shahrouri entitled “How does the Local Writer Showcase His Authority?” 8. The establishment of Dar al-Kotob al-Arabiyya (The Arab Book House) in Tayibe. 9. The National Gathering for the Preservation of Arab Culture. 10. The novelist Emile Habibi is nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature. 11. A doctor working at Rafidia Hospital refuses to attend to a patient. 12. Nabulsi soap still retains the essence of its production method. 13. An article on the obstacles hindering the absorption of recent graduates into the labour market. 14. An article on Palestinian workers smuggling into Israel for work due to the continued security belt. 15. Jenin Secondary Girlsʾ School holds a three-day cultural and literary festival. 16. Women entering the labour market in the Gaza Strip are met with scorn and approval. 17. Israel continues the policy of collective punishment in Hebron. 18. A delegation from the Israeli Peace Now movement visits the city of Hebron after the Ibrahimi Mosque massacre. 19. The representative of the American Federation of Ramallah states that expatriates are interested in investing in the city to pave the way for their return. 20. Attaliʾah interviews Ilyas Farraj, the Mayor of Bethlehem, regarding a variety of social and political issues. 21. Another group of deportees returns to Palestine. 22. The closure of Dar al-Jalaʾ for Culture and Arts.
