Attali'ah Newspaper, Issue 856, September 14 1994
The eight hundred and fifty-sixth issue of Attali'ah Newspaper which was published on September 14, 1994. Bashir al-Barghuthy is the issueʾs editor-in-chief, and it was printed in Salah ad-Din Press in al-Quds (Jerusalem). The 8-page issue covers the following: 1. Suleiman Najjab states at an open political symposium in Jifna that what the Palestinian leadership has achieved will not satisfy the aspirations of Palestinian people. 2. The Israeli Occupation Forces ban all Jordanian banks from opening branches in al-Quds (Jerusalem). 3. Palestinian families in Hebron build fences to protect their homes from settlers. 4. The Ramallah and al-Bireh newsletter (The establishment of the Committee of National and Islamic Organisations, the spread of weapons in Ramallah and al-Bireh, calls for forming student councils in the schools of the city, the pharmaceutical tenders awarded to Egyptian factories put the Palestinian pharmaceutical market under risk, the rising prices of houses, shops, and land in Ramallah and al-Bireh). 5. The members of the Birzeit Municipal Council prefer electing a new temporary council to hold the municipal elections. 6. The Palestinian documents series publishes “An Agreement about the Gaza Strip and Jericho. Cairo May 5, 1994”. 7. The Gaza newsletter (The police raids houses in Gaza without permission from the Public Prosecutor's Office, arrests on political bases in Gaza without informing the families of the detainees of their location, non-governmental healthcare institutions discuss their future, consultations regarding the formation of temporary municipal councils in the Gaza Strip). 8. The Bethlehem newsletter (Tourist preparations as the Christmas and holiday season approaches, the situation of workers on checkpoints in the morning, students congratulate their colleagues on their success, school tuition fees increase, teachers protest not receiving a raise on their salaries). 9. Fights on the ownership of property in Bethlehem due to increased rates of immigration. 10. Universities postpone the issue of raising tuition fees until the beginning of 1995. 11. Trade unions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip organise activities to uplift the status of its members.
