"Bassam", a Poem Simulating the Israeli Assassination Attempt Against Nablus Mayor Bassam Shak'a, 1980

Handwritten in Arabic, this document shows a poem addressing Nablus Mayor Bassam Shak'a upon his return from treatment in England following an Israeli assassination attempt in June 1980 which cost him his legs. The poem goes like this: "Free Men from the Fire Mountain (Nablus), Welcome Bassam Home", and of the attempt, it goes "They amputated your legs, but amputation does not cut an iron-sword".
