Anwar Nusseibeh's Lecture Notes on the Rule of Law in the Club of Sports and Literature

Printed in Arabic, this archival item documents a lecture about the rule of law prepared by Anwar Nusseibeh and delivered at the Club of Athletics and Literature; whereas he inaugurated it by expressing how grateful and respectful he feels towards his life, and it is a great honour to present a speech about such topic that occupies a high priority in the lives of people and civilized societies explaining the role of disagreements which led to the formation of law; its explanations and methods of implementing it, and the importance of adhering to the adequate law for the Arabic-based societies because it resulted from the development of the nations and its definite desire to provide happiness for everyone and because the Arabic-based society is in need for the rule of law in order for people to feel their thriving need of adjustment. In this lecture, he demonstrates the conflicting perspectives from the impartiality of the outer factors concerning the change of the law; upon this, he gave an example of the massive loss a person endures once a provision is changed by revolting against the regime, he also mentioned that opinion of Descartes and his belief in the systematic development; quoting the point of views of some intellectuals like “Baruch Spinoza”, “Blaise Pascal”, “Howard Hughes”, “John Locke”, and “Jean-Jacques Rousseau” and how “Rousseau” disagrees with the French writer “Voltaire”; whereas the listing of thoughts by such intellectuals and philosophers is considered as an understanding towards the disagreements resulting from the formation of law.
