The Proceedings of the 17th Session of a Court Martial on the Coup Attempt Against the King of Jordan, 12 August 1957

Printed in Arabic, this archival item documents the proceedings of the 17th session of the Court Martial on the coup attempt against the King of Jordan held on Monday, 12 August 1957 at the King Abdullah II Air Base, in the presence of Colonel “Abed el-Karim al-Barghouti” and Colonel “Ahmad Baslan” along with “Taher Ashihabi” and “Adnan Biyoun”, together, they did the secretary related work.  The Defense Committee included the following attorneys; Anwar Nusseibeh, Fuad Abd el-Hadi, Hasan Habib Hawwa and Azziz Shihadeh; whereas the session was inaugurated by the Chief Colonel Major “Aukash Azzain” who requested from the Representative of the Prosecution General "Muhammad Assadi" to present the witness; the First Soldier “Ribhi Mustafa” in order to be questioned about his name, number and age in addition to what extent does he know the suspects? since when? and is there any relationship between them?.  After delivering his answers it became clear that he worked as a driver for Sergeant “Shawkat Sabboul” for one month and half from now and remained until the events of al-Zarqa to when Sabboul has been suspended from work, as for being questioned on the meetings of Sabboul with other officers, he confirmed that he witnessed him visiting his neighbours “Ahmad Zarour”, “Turki al-Hindawi”, “Jafar Ashami”, Nayif al-Hadid” and “Ihasan al-Halawani”.  Later, he spoke in depth of the meetings in which he knew about some such as the duration, attendance and place, meanwhile, Assadi called upon the second witness; Chief “Adnan Hijazi” who was also asked to deliver his name, number, military rank and years of experience among the army and other in addition to what extent does he know the suspects? is there any relationship between them? and his five warehouses as he carried on with his testimony. Then, soldier “Ahmad Abdelrahman al-Khatib” was invited as a witness who addressed himself thoroughly and declared whether he knows the suspects or if there is a relationship between them until the session was closed, nevertheless, to resume at 5:00 pm of the same evening.
