"The Documentary Record of the Arab Higher Committee: Its Origins, Personnel and Purposes", by the Nations Magazine, 1947
Printed in English and attached with documents in German and Italian, this archival item is a documentary record putting together written and visionary material of the Arab Higher Committee, prepared by the Nations Magazine and delivered to the United Nations in May 1947, in this record, the magazine attaches a brief on the committee between (1936-June 1946) inaugurated by recalling one of the official testimonials addressed by the committee for the benefit of the Palestinian Question when the Political Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations invited it on 7 May 1947 without a dissenting vote at that time, in addition to a timeframe tracing its pollical origins by the Arab League and the committee’s president, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin Husseini and the founding members whom were in close ties with the Mufti and they are Wasef Kamal, Rasem al-Khalidi, Emil Ghouri and Jamal al-Husseini and this was after it was limited to Jamal al-Husseini as the Vice President, Hasan al-Khalidi as the General Secretary with the membership of Emil Ghouri and Ahmad Helmi and their motives behind such membership, afterwards it tracks the history of the Arab League’s relationship with Palestine including member states all the way down to copies of scattered documents which varies between photographs, paper clippings, minutes of meetings; both official and non-official, handwritten financial records of the committee’s expenses, letters between the Mufti and his allies in Germany and Italy and copies of his diaries in which he recorded his talks with the German Leader Adolf Hitler on the Question of Palestine. It is worth to mention that the “Nations” is America’s oldest magazine producing a weekly press production on progressive politics and cultural issues in addition to providing political analysis since July 1865.
