The Restoration Reports Issued by the Construction Committee of al-Aqsa Mosque Engineer, April 1973
Printed in Arabic, this archival item documents the reports of the Construction Committee of al-Aqsa Mosque which are divided into the reports prepared by Office of the Resident Engineer, Ibrahim Addaqaq on the restoration of al-Aqsa Mosque, its circumstances and all additional attachments delivered to his Eminence, Head of the Construction Committee on 10 August 1972 and the reports given by the Engineering Committee assigned by the Syndicate of Engineers to study the possibility of restoration based on the request of his Eminence, Head of the Construction Committee on 9 March 1973. The reports enclose all details associated with the event of the burning of al-Aqsa Mosque which took place in the south-eastern areas and the sanctum on Thursday, 21 August 1969 causing severe damages, therefore, a committee has been assigned by the Syndicate of Engineers in the West Bank on 6 September 1969 led by his Eminence, Sheikh Helmi al-Muhtaseb along with Ibrahim Addaqaq as the Resident Engineer and the Director of the Endowments of Jerusalem, Hasan Tahboub as the Secretary-General of the committee in addition to the engineers Rzique Espir Khouri and Muhammad Nusseibeh as the Chancellor of the Engineering Committee. The Committee started its work based on the validations given by the “Resolution of the Restoration of al-Aqsa Mosque” number “32/54” signed on 11 December 1954 documenting all of which within reports enclosing minutes of meetings, correspondences between its members and financial records showing the nature of materials used for the restoration process and perhaps one of the important reports included was the one giving a primary confirmation stating that the fire wasn’t caused by a deficiency in the electricity and it happened intentionally based on the observations of the electrical engineers assigned by the committee.
