A Newsletter Issued by the Workers and Employees Union of the Jerusalem District Electricity Company, 1975-85
Printed in Arabic, this archival item documents a newsletter issued by the Workers and Employees Union of the Jerusalem District Electricity Company between 1975-1985. The cover of which features the logo of the union, and a verse of the Quran recognizing the importance of teamwork, it was inaugurated by an opening speech in celebration of International Worker’s Day written by the Union’s Secretary, al-Hajj Abed Abu Deeb. The newsletter contains a variety of social, political and cultural topics in addition to photographs documenting the activities conducted by members of the union such as the plays, political stands and entertainment activities and perhaps one of these important photographs were the ones archiving the patriotic meetings and gatherings implemented due to the attempts of the “Occupation’s Authorities” to take over the Jerusalem District Electricity Company in 1980; as they were held in the presence of well-recognized political leaders like the previous Mayor of Nablus, Bassam Ashakaa and the Head of the Islamic Supreme Committee, Sheikh Saad Eddin al-Alami during their visit to confirm the Arabism of the company in addition to photographs showing Anwar Nusseibeh who served as the Chairman of the Board assigned by the company itself to help prevent such occupancy.
