Taken in the 1920s, this photograph shows the second station of the Via Dolorosa in the old city of Jerusalem, which is called carrying the cross. The "Way of Suffering" is the path that Jesus Christ would have taken on the way to his crucifixion, consisting of fourteen stations, each representing a glimpse of his suffering.
