Issue 8 of al-Jadeed Magazine, August 1988
The eighth issue of the al-Jadid magazine, a monthly magazine for progressive national thought and culture, was founded in 1951 and printed in the Union Cooperative Press in Haifa, issued in August 1988 under the supervision of its first editor Hanna Naqra and its chief editor Ibrahim Malik. The cover contains a picture of the Palestinian writer Emile Touma on the third anniversary of his passing. The issue included the following: 1. The talk of the month is titled “Be Strong” by editor Ibrahim Malik. 2. An article titled “The Heritage of Emil Touma, the Spring and the Lighthouse” by Ahmad Saad. 3. An article titled “Hamlet, the Monalisa of Literature” by Samira ad-Deek. 4. An article titled “Ibn Abi Usaybi'a and the Medical History Philosophy” by Yahia Matani. 5. A study titled “The Fetal Composition of the Revolutionary Hero of Kanafani” by Qusai Hussein. 6. Poetry from the collection “I Ask No One’s Pardon” by Sameeh al-Qasem. 7. Poetry titled “Raqsat al-Farashah as-Sawda” (The Dance of the Black Butterfly). 8. Poetry titled “Al-Mohr an-Nari” (The Fire Foul) by Yousef al-Mahmoud. 9. Poetry titled “Ma Arwa ath-Thkera” (How Great the Memory Is) by Iman ar-Rafati. 10. An article titled “Discussions on the Poetry of Intifada” by Abdullah Issa. 11. An article titled “The Poetic Rhythm of the Intifada in Two Poems: Sameeh al-Qasem from Dialogue to Monologue” by al-Muthanna Ash-Sheikh Ateyyeh. 12. A study titled “Arabs as Hollywood Views Them” by Jack Shahin. 13. An article on the book “Cherry Blossoms” by Mahdi Mohammad Ali. 14. A story titled “Waiting” by Ayda Nasrallah. 15. A story titled “Fire Column” by Suheil Kiwan. 16. A Russian story titled “Dark Avenues” by Ivan Bunin. 17. Varied news of cultural and literary monthly activities.
