The 2nd Issue of al-Gherbal Magazine, July 1994
"The Second Attempt", or the second issue of al-Gherbal Magazine, an intellectual magazine concerned with matters of literature, art and criticism, was published in Ramallah. The magazine’s editorial board included Ahmad Rafiq Awad, Ziad Khadash, Abdel-Karim Mazal, Rafaat as-Sabha, Khaled Juma’a and Khaled Awad. The members of its advisory committee were Izzat Ghazzawi, Ilham abu Ghazaleh, Sami Kilani and Naji Zaher, while it was directed by Ziad Youssef. The cover page issues a drawing of sieve "Gherbal", and titles for the highlights of this issue, which included the poem "Tawba An Attawba (Repentance for Repenting)", which is the last poem by the poet Abdel Latif Aqel in his own handwriting and an article by Khitam Suleiman titled "Women in the Literature of Ahmad Harb". As for the inner pages, they included several contributions by different writers in addition to some commercials and advertisements. The titles and topics dealt with in the issue were arranged in sections as follows: Hazat al-Gherbal, the Orchard of the Short Story, the Neigh of Poetry, the Doha of Criticism, a case for discussion, and the world of theatre, emotions, linguistics, heritage garden, creations on the road, dusting at the doorstep, national literature, world literature, local culture news, Arab and international culture news.
