A Special Edition of "The Jerusalem Times" on Christmas, Jerusalem-Jordan, 1964

Printed in English, this document includes a special edition of "The Jerusalem Times" on the occasion of Christmas in 1964, which is a daily and political newspaper published by al-Jihad House of Press in Jerusalem. The cover shows a black and white photograph of King Hussein bin Talal while the greater part of it was devoted to a picture of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. In this issue, "The Jerusalem Times" thanks everyone who contributed and supported the publication of the issue and extends best wishes to all readers on the occasion of Christmas, stressing that the newspaper will return as usual on Tuesday, 29 December 1965, after the end of the holidays. This publication is characterized by the fact that it addressed the political, religious and social concept of birth within a journalistic framework that suits different age groups. Its first page was dedicated to focusing on tourism activity in Jordan, especially in light of religious occasions, as well as various advertisements for airlines, including the "United Arab Airlines" and hotels in Jordan, which use this time of the year to attract tourists coming to Jordan and Jerusalem. The newspaper then turns to generalities by reviewing political materials from other geographical areas such as Nablus, about which both the city’s governor Hamdi Kanaan and the then Jerusalem governor Rawhi al-Khatib, who traced the current development in the city of Jerusalem, wrote an article titled “Jerusalem for the better,” in which he mentioned a list of the Kingdom’s achievements, such as the establishment of a government hospital and the restoration of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the al-Aqsa Mosque, the Dome of the Rock and others. Although this issue is dedicated to a Christian religious occasion, news materials have been received from the Arab world, such as Saudi Arabia and the religious status of Makkah al-Mukarramah among Muslims. It is worth noting that Zaki Nusseibeh, the son of Anwar Nusseibeh, was among those who wrote in this issue and shared his reflections on the play "The Nativity" that he watched and it was performed by only one person.
