Abdel-Rahman al-Haj Ibrahim Diaries, Tulkarm, 1929

Handwritten between 1 January and 31 December 1929, this document shows the diaries of Abdel-Rahman al-Haj Ibrahim for the year 1929 where he detailed his family and social life as the mayor of Tulkarm. According to their subject, the diaries were divided into three sections, where al-Haj Ibrahim recorded the most important activities. For one, he wrote about his ownership of the Faza orchard on the seashore near the city of Tulkarm and the village of Umm Khaled, where he also recorded accounts and expenses for the orchard, including accounts for the purchase of seeds, planting trees, and installing pipelines from the orchard's pool, as well as recording the production of watermelons, melons and wheat. Al-Haj Ibrahim also recorded the most important social activities, including the wedding of his daughter Saniyeh, and his visit to a few Palestinian cities, towns and villages, including Haifa, Yafa, Jerusalem, Lod, Akka, Umm Khaled, and Kafr Saba. He also wrote that he attended a meeting on the events following the al-Buraq Uprising 1929, which was held at al-Hammoz Café in Nablus and wrote about the dispute that erupted therein, as well as recording the many plots of land he sold in dunums. Additionally, al-Hajj Ibrahim was keen on writing down the days he went to work at the Municipality and focused on writing about auditing the Municipality’s accounts and setting its budget, supervising the building of the Education Committee's shops in the city market, discussing and preparing for the water project and the street lighting project, and deciding on the location of the establishment of a waste incinerator.
