Abdel-Rahman al-Haj Ibrahim Diaries, Tulkarm, 1934

Handwritten between 1 January and 31 December 1934, this document shows the diaries of Abdel-Rahman al-Haj Ibrahim for the year 1934 where he detailed his family and social life as the mayor of Tulkarm. According to their subject, the diaries were divided into three sections, where al-Haj Ibrahim recorded the most important activities. For one, he wrote about his ownership of the Faza orchard on the seashore near the city of Tulkarm and the village of Umm Khaled, where he also recorded accounts and expenses for the orchard, including accounts for installing iron doors, buying hay for the cows therein. Among the most important things mentioned in his diaries were the wedding of his son Sameer, and his visit to a few Palestinian cities, towns and villages, including Haifa, Yaffa, Jerusalem, Lod, Akka, Umm Khaled, and Kafr Saba. He also wrote at the top of some pages a description of his health condition and was keen to write about his work at the Municipality where he would attend the Municipal Council meetings, as well as those of the street, education and city cleaning committees. He also focused on preparing for the Municipal Elections and his appointment as head of the Municipal Council by the High Commissioner. He also spoke about the issuance of an official decision to initiate a water project in the city of Tulkarm, and issuing another decision to start working on a public street that passes by the agricultural school in Tulkarm.
