A Protest Letter from the President of the Islamic Endowments and Affairs Council to the Israeli Prime Minister, Jerusalem, 1 October 1967
Issued on 1 October 1967, this document shows a letter of protest that was addressed from Hilmi al-Muhtasib, president of the Islamic Endowments (Awqaf) and Affairs Council and president of the Sharia Court of Appeal, to the Israeli Prime Minister regarding the excavations around al-Buraq Wall, the western wall of al-Haram ash-Sharif. In his letter, al-Muhtasib called for halting these excavations as they constitute a blatant infringement of al-Haram as well as of the Muslims' rights and sentiments.
