Taken in 1981, this photograph shows Bassam Shakaa lifted up on the shoulders of the crowds of people who welcomed him upon return from his trip to London for treatment and arrival at the city of Nablus in the wake of the Israel Occupation Authorities' attempt to assassinate him, leading to the amputation of his legs on 2 June 1980.
