Bassam Shakaa in Egypt, 1962
Taken in 1962, this photograph shows Bassam Shakaa after his arrival in the United Arab Republic (Egypt), seeking political asylum, in the wake of his release from Mezzeh Detention Centre in Damascus, where he was detained for opposing the breakup of the union between Syria and Egypt.
