Bassam Shakaa in Paris, August 1980
Taken in August 1980, this photograph shows a part of the visit of Bassam Shakaa, mayor of Nablus, to France at the invitation of the French President Valery d'Estaing, in the wake of the Israeli Occupation Authorities' attempt to assassinate Shakaa in the same year. Shakaa appears in the photograph at the sidelines of a luncheon hosted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in his honour, accompanied by a number of Arab and foreign ambassadors and diplomats as well as representatives of the French government.
