Taken in 1980, this photograph shows a part of the visit of Bassam Shakaa, mayor of Nablus, to France at the invitation of the French President Valery d'Estaing, in the wake of the Israeli Occupation Authorities' attempt to assassinate Shakaa in the same year. It also shows Shakaa at the Hôtel de Crillon in Paris, accompanied by his wife, Enaya al-Fassed, Henri Sarvon, head of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Middle East Department, who appears between them, and Ahmad Abdoun, director of the Office of the League of Arab States in Paris.
