Bassam Shakaa in London, 1980

Taken in 1980, this photograph shows Bassam Shakaa, mayor of Nablus, at Portman Hotel during his trip to London for treatment, in the wake of the Israeli Occupation Authorities' attempt to assassinate him, leading to the amputation of his leg on 2 June of the same year. It was taken by the British author Marion Woolfson, who wrote "Bassam Shakʼa, portrait of a Palestinian".
