Bassam Shakaa in Britain, October 1980
Taken in October 1980, this photograph shows a part of the visit of Bassam Shakaa, mayor of Nablus, to the Slough Borough Council on the sidelines of his trip to Britain for treatment, in the wake of the Israeli Occupation Authorities' attempt to assassinate him, leading to the amputation of his legs on 2 June of the same year. Shakaa appears in the photograph along with his wife, Enaya al-Fassed; Donald Fraser, mayor of Slough, next to Shakaa; and A. Bhattacharya, secretary of the Borough of Slough.
