Bassam Shakaa in Britain, October 1980

Taken in October 1980, this photograph shows a part of the visit of Bassam Shakaa, mayor of Nablus, to College Green, Bristol on the sidelines of his trip to Britain for treatment, in the wake of the Israeli Occupation Authorities' attempt to assassinate him, leading to the amputation of his legs on 2 June of the same year. From right to left on the photograph are Enaya al-Fassed, Shakaa's wife; Ahmed Saker, interpreter; Shakaa, sitting; Ali Younis; mayor of Bristol; and Lady Mayoress.
