Allenby giving a speech during celebrating the occupation of Jerusalem, 1917
Taken on 19 December 1917, this photograph shows Field Marshal Edmund Allenby, 1st Viscount Allenby giving his speech during the celebration of the occupation of Jerusalem, with the attendance of the commanders of the Combined Armies in World War I, in front of the Jerusalem Castle to the north of al-Khalil Gate. The heads of religions appear among the crowd, including Sheikh Kamel al-Husseini, the Mufti of Jerusalem.
