The Surrender of Jerusalem to the British Forces, 1917
Taken on 9 December 1917, this photograph documents the surrender of Jerusalem to the British forces after the Ottoman forces withdrew from it, where the mayor was asked to surrender without fighting to avoid destruction. Those in the photograph include Tawfiq Saleh al-Husseini, Hussein Salim al-Husseini (the mayor), a British soldier, Jawad Ismail al-Husseini, police inspectors Abdel-Qader al-Alami and Ahmad Sharif, police officers Hussein al-Alami and Ibrahim az-Za'noun, Rushdi al-Muhatadi and Hanna Iskandar al-Lahham.
