BIOGRAPHY

Walid al-Aghbar is a Palestinian trade unionist and communist from Nablus. He started his career in the early 1950s. He is one of the founders of the Palestine General Federation of Trade Unions, the Progressive Labor Bloc, and the trade union and labour framework of the Palestinian People’s Party. In 1976, he was one of the most prominent worker figures who contributed to the establishment of the Construction Workers Union in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. He passed away in 2010.

DESCRIPTION

The Waleed al-Aghbar Collection is a personal collection which discusses the activities of Walid al-Aghbar, who served as the Secretary-General of the Construction Workers Union (CWU) and was a member of the Palestine General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU). It includes several documents on the history of CWU and the Palestinian labour movement, including minutes of CWU's meetings, certificates, and a PGFTU statement. In addition, it also includes al-Aghbar's identity card, photos of his work trip to Spain, and an obituary paying tribute to him.
