DESCRIPTION

The Basma Cafe Collection, which belongs to the artist and actor Faris Hanania and is located on the port of Yafa, contains 22 books, which Hanania kept after inheriting part of them from his father and the other from his grandfather. Being very careful in keeping the collection in safety, he used to move it between his home and the cafe, particularly since his home was never safe due to the harassment of the Israeli Occupation Authorities and the constant threats to demolish it. The largest share of the collection consisted of books published in Cairo, some of which were part of the Egyptian curriculum in the 1920s, which was the same curriculum studied by the grandfather Hanania, and some others were printed in Yafa and Akka. The collection included yet two other books, namely the book titled "Laws of Palestine", which was issued by the Mandatory Government of Palestine in 1933 and printed in Jerusalem, and the other titled "Ma'alim at-Tarikh" (The Landmarks of History), which was translated by Khalil Sakkini, Wasfi Anbatawi and Ahmad Khalifa, in addition to issues of the al-Manar Weekly, published between 1900 and 1901 in Lebanon.
