A Photograph of "Samya Bamya and Her Husband Ṣaʾeb Bamya", 1984
A black-and-white photograph of Samya Bamya and her husband Ṣaʾeb Bamya. The couple met through their work with the Palestinian Revolution. Ṣaʾeb Bamya, born in 1946 in Jaffa, joined the ranks of the Revolution in Beirut in the 1960s. He worked with the Palestinian Shaheeds’ Works Society (Samed), the economic wing of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO). Samya Bamya joined the women's movement in Shatila Palestinian Refugee Camp. Given her fluency in both English and French, she worked at Fate's Public Information Office as well. The family moved to Aden for a short period in time and then settled in the United Arab Emirates, where Samya headed the General Union of Palestinian Women and Ṣaʾeb worked at Samed's office in the UAE.
